Our team is composed of TWO types of volunteers.
General Volunteer
- Participate in training events, community outreach, and team gatherings
- Receive team updates and Colorado disaster news.
- Provide support to teammates with logistics, planning, and coordination during training exercises and disaster response
- These are NO-animal contact volunteer roles
General Volunteers pay a $25 fee to cover insurance costs.
Boots-on-Ground Member
- Receive additional training to be qualified for roles within an active disaster area
- Receive additional insurance coverage for boots-on-ground activities and animal-contact roles
- Be assigned to an active response team to train with teammates and exercise unit response protocols
- Deploy into active disaster zones to support federal and local government response groups and other volunteer organizations
Boots-on-Ground Members pay an additional $50 fee to contribute to the cost of additional insurance & training, safety & professional gear, and coordination staff time.
Get started with your General Volunteer training today. It typically takes a new volunteer about 3 months to onboard with our team.

1.Submit an Interest Form
Let us know about you and your interest in disaster reponse through our Interest Form.
2. Complete Core Competency Training, Part 1
1. Complete the Community Preparedness and You (CPY) class hosted by RMMRC
2. Start prepping your own personal and professional Go-Bags
3. Complete two online FEMA training classes (IS 100.C & IS 700.B) required by our emergency response partners
3. Register in the Colorado Volunteer Mobilizer (CVM)
3. Complete an application & interview
Submit an application to let us know more about your skillset and volunteer interest.
Meet with a member of our onboarding team via a video call.
4. Attend an MRC Orientation session
Attend an MRC Orientation session (hosted by RMMRC) to learn about your responsibilities as a volunteer and important details about membership with the MRC.
Welcome to the team!
After completing this step, you are a qualified General Volunteer.
5. Pay a $25 fee
This fee contributes to insurance costs.
After becoming a General Volunteer, keep going with your training to participate in an MRP and be part of a Boots-on-Ground MRP team during a disaster response.
Complete Core Competency Training, Part 2
Complete additional training to qualify for deploying into disaster areas.
This additional training includes education on communication during disaster, public safety concerns while deployed, and advanced psychological resiliency skills.
Pay an additional $50
This fee contributes to the cost of additional insurance and training for animal-contact volunteers and the safety & professional gear needed for working within restricted disaster areas with an MRP deployment teams.
Be assigned to an MRP team
Qualified Boots-on-Ground members are assigned to a specific MRP team based on skillset and experience.
MRPs are cohorts of veterinary professionals trained in a specific skillsets that deploy as a unit into disaster areas.
